SEO - Search Engine Optimisation

Studies have shown that results after the top four on the first page simply don’t get clicked on. More than half of all online sales come from search engine traffic. With more and more business coming from websites, it’s just good sense search results match up to a business’ potential. That’s where Northern Media can help.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the process of improving your website’s ranking within the organic listings returned by a search engine. Here at Northern Media our Google Analytics and AdWords certified staff monitor Google’s algorithm updates. This means we can fine tune the copy we provide and ensure your website places as high in the Google rankings as possible.  This means the first copy we provide you with will be perfectly optimised for not just Google but Bing and Yahoo, plus with every further algorithm change, we can make the tweaks or wholesale changes needed to keep you at the top of the pile and ahead of competitors.

At Northern Media, we also understand the importance of metadata. We carefully research this hidden data and ensure it is properly inputted within the design of your site. Many companies avoid doing this because most clients won’t notice, but we believe anything that can help the client is worth doing.

Whilst SEO is a technical discipline, Northern Media have a holistic approach. For example, there is no point ranking in position one of Google, if the traffic isn’t going to convert into a sale. Equally, we will work with you to assess the return on your SEO budget across your target keywords, in terms of leads, sales, conversion and profit.

If you require the expertise of our in-house SEO specialist to get your website ranking, do not hesitate to get in touch with the team today on 01924 367105.

Is an SEO campaign better than PPC?

While PPC guarantee you to be top of search results, studies have suggested that organic results are 8.5x more likely to be clicked on than search results. An effective SEO campaign which increase the ranking of your site organically is a more sustainable approach to increasing traffic to your site.

Are Meta Tiles and Meta Descriptions still important?

The adding of meta titles and descriptions is always a contentious topic, with some SEO experts believing they are no longer valuable, whilst others having good evidence to show that sites with them do rank better.
At Northern Media, we have our own experience with this and we are firmly in the belief that meta titles and descriptions still play a key part in ranking any website. To understand their true value, let’s first look at what they are:

What are meta titles and descriptions?

A meta tag defines the title of your web page. It should be less than 70 characters and have important keywords. Search engines will reference those keywords within search terms and help your website appear. Be careful though and avoid keyword spamming. Also, Google recommends using your brand name in the title also, and making sure that everyone is unique.

A meta description, whilst not always looked at by many people, can still be picked up by google as a snippet of what is on the page and can help ranking. It should too have keywords included which will show up in search snippets. Again, this should be unique on every page, ideally and make it engage to make the user want to click on it. Remember, it is a competitive market on google so you want your description to stand out from the crowd and entice the reader to click your page.

How they work:

The title tag and the meta description tags should include keywords relevant to the content of the web page they describe. This then helps Search Engines understand what the page is about and better index your web pages accordingly for relevant keywords or keyword phrases. As a result, you should see an improvement in your SERP within a few weeks.

Remember that you should always look to improve this like you would content on the site to ensure your descriptions and titles are still relevant with the direction of your business.

Our Experiences

Northern Media has provided SEO campaigns for over 100 websites and we are in the firm belief that adding meta titles and descriptions to your website will help them to rank higher. We have done this for websites across many sectors and locations and consistently see improvements when adding in this technical SEO data.

Why are H1 headers so important for SEO?

H1 headers are an important SEO ranking factor but are often not optimised on a website. It is worth taking a little care to understand the significance of the content of your H1 headers, and the uses and content of your H2, H3 and H4 headers so you can get the best results from your optimisation.

H1 headers, or H1 tags in HTML, should usually be the titles of your posts. The 1. refers to the size of the font, or actual size of text, and H1 is the biggest, so this is the primary title of your work. Sub-titles, going down in size, and importance, are H2, H3, H4 etc.

It is important to get H1 headers right, because H1 headers communicate to search engines what your website is about. Search engines recognise H1 headers, and give the copy in H1 headers most importance, followed by copy in H2, H3, and H4 headers, and so on.

In H1 headers, or tags, you should make sure you have your chosen keywords for that post. That is, the ones that you are particularly targeting. The keywords in the H1 tags should be relevant to the content of the post.

H2 headers are sub-titles, and you should aim to include keywords in here that are related to those in your H1 headers. H3 headers are sub-titles to the H2 headers, and so on.

Skilful use of H1 headers to relay to search engines what your website is about, is a key factor in SEO, and will help to improve the all-important ranking of your website.
