The people at Northern Media are crucial to the continued success and growth of the business so, with this in mind, we have created a new development plan that aims to develop every member of the team in terms of skills, knowledge and expertise with the ultimate objective of maximising people’s potential.
Commenting on the plan, our very own Chris Elliott says “We wanted to put together a people development strategy that was a bit different, matched the culture and values of the business and one that enabled the team to control their own development with our support. Working with our HR Consultancy, HR180, what we have put together is a combination of a traditional review based format and a training budget and plan that each person manages.”
Essentially every member of the team is allocated a training budget for the year which allows them to develop their skills, knowledge and expertise in certain areas. The individual will then identify which courses, programmes or seminars they want to attend that will support their role and development at Northern Media.
“We want to empower the team across all areas of the business so that everyone does what they feel is in the best interest of their own respective roles and for the business. The self-identifying training is just one thing we are looking to do.”
Group learning is also being encouraged within the business, so people are invited to share any new-found skills, useful information or knowledge with the rest of the team in order to educate others and benefit the overall business performance.
“The plan was only launched in February but we have already seen people attending training courses and have also had some internal knowledge sharing across the team which is great to see.” Chris concludes.
