Northern Media has recently completed a new ecommerce website for leading appliance spares company ‘Spares Direct’. Built using the Opencart platform, around 20,000 products were bulk uploaded into the Opencart mysql database, directly from their previous website.
Having already re-branded the company back in September 2013, the new ecommerce website went live on the 15th of October and has already registered strong sales.
In addition to featuring their full portfolio of products, the website features include a quick search function, recently viewed items section, reviews, related products section, security certificate, social media links, blog, news page, guides page. The site was built to integrate with Sagepay and using Opencart’s bolt on modules has full SEO capability.
Commenting on the new website, Spares Direct Director Vincent Vurgest added, “I am really pleased with both the new branding and the new ecommerce website. There had been a lot of SEO work done on the old site and as such we were concerned about how the ranking would be affected and a possible drop in sales during the migration. However, Northern Media managed the transition very effectively, including re-directing all inbound links and submitting a structured sitemap to Google. As a result the dip in sales was minimal which was a great relief.”
Within two weeks of going live the website is already starting to rank highly on Google for the target keywords. Over the coming weeks and months, Northern Media will deploy a range of strategies to drive additional traffic to the website. This will include on-site and off-site SEO work, Outbound email marketing and a social media campaign.
Commenting on the project, Northern Media Sales Director, Jonathan Scott added, “Due to the complexity of the product data format, it was quite an ambitious plan to get 20,000 products into the Opencart database, but we managed to achieve it on time and on budget which is great. The result is a website which looks clean, fresh and modern and with a comprehensive range of products. This is backed up by all the traditional features that a good ecommerce website should have as standard. The proof is inevitably always in the pudding, and the first signs are excellent, so watch this space for our next update on progress.”
