To celebrate #NationalApprenticeshipWeek we thought we’d share a little bit about why Northern Media feels so passionate about hiring apprentices as part of our team.
Apprentices have been at the heart of the business for several years as we are keen to provide young people with an opportunity to learn and develop a specific specialism within a commercial environment.
What better proof that apprenticeships are highly effective, than the fact that Jess Venson, our very first Graphic Design apprentice, hired in 2014, is now our Senior Graphic Designer and member of the Senior Leadership Team. We asked Jess a little about how she found her experience as an apprentice and why it was the best decision for her.
“I knew university wasn’t for me as I was keen to jump straight into a real-world environment and learn on the job. An apprenticeship therefore felt like the right fit for me and would allow me to have a full-time job and develop my skills alongside completing the qualification itself.
An apprenticeship certainly isn’t without hard work, and I have developed a plethora of skills, both professionally and personally through going down this route. Northern Media have been instrumental in allowing me to develop my career and progress in the business since my apprenticeship, leading me to take on a further apprenticeship in Management and Leadership.”
Fast forward to today, and we have a newly qualified Digital Marketing Apprentice, Courtney, who completed her qualification in February and is now a fully-fledged member of the Account Executive team.
In addition, we have Nathan, our Apprentice Web Developer, who acts as a vital part of the web development team and is involved in a variety of client-based website projects, gaining first hand experience in web design. Going forwards, we hope to recruit more apprentices to the team, and hope that once qualified, they go on to be just as successful as Jess, whether that be with Northern Media or not.
