Wakefield College was awarded £3,327,133 earlier this month from West Yorkshire Combined Authority for the new project which is now one step closer to becoming a reality. If all approved, the new university centre will deliver higher level qualifications in a number of disciplines including digital and creative technologies. The College will match the funding to make the total project costs of £6,654,266.
Chris Elliott, managing director at Northern Media, said:
“This is great news for Wakefield as well as the digital community in the area. Wakefield has developed a reputation for having a strong and growing creative industry and the new campus will only enhance that.
“The new university centre will mean that businesses in the city have an opportunity to access graduates for their workforce, an avenue we at Northern Media know works exceptionally well. The success of our business is based on recruiting talented young, passionate and local individuals who have a range of creative skills. We look forward to seeing the development of the university centre over the coming years and, once it’s fully opened, we will hopefully get to meet some of the next wave of creatives in the city.”
Over the past three years Northern Media has hired a number of University graduates from Huddersfield and Leeds, as well as taken on apprentices from Barnsley College, to help build their digital marketing and design team in Wakefield City Centre.
